Exercising Is a Small Part of Permanent Weight Loss

Blog for Women with Food Addiction | Food Addiction | Sugar Addiction

We don’t have to keep an exercise regimen to keep weight off our bodies and stay in our normal size bodies. I know this seems counter intuitive. We’ve all heard from “experts” who say that we have to exercise if we want to lose weight and keep it off.

Don’t get me wrong, exercising is good for our bodies. Exercise raises our metabolism and therefore, burn calories. It tones our muscles, gives us energy and improves our overall health.

But let’s not fool ourselves, exercise alone can’t fix our weight issues. How many times have we signed up for exercise classes, boot camps, or commit to an exercise buddy to go walking regularly?

How many half marathons or walk-a-thons have we done just to shed some weight?  But even after going through all that exercising, we still struggled with our weight.  See, that’s what I mean by exercising is not the long-term answer for staying in a normal size body.

What is the Secret?

Over the years, I’ve learned that it is what we eat that counts. Really!  If we continue to snack on cakes, cookies, candies, ice cream, chips, etc., we are not going to keep our weight in a normal range. If you are like me, our bodies just can’t handle the overload of sugar, salt and additives that keep us craving for more.

Cravings plunges us into an addictive cycle of chasing our cravings for sweets and salty, crunchy chips and other foods that we think might hit the spot. Then, our weight starts climbing again!

Stop Dieting

Dieting is not the answer either. I’ve been there and have done that for over 40 years. What a miserable way to live! Fortunately, there is a sane way to eat, while enjoying life in a right size body. Eating 3 normal healthy meals a day is what is needed to remain healthy. However, to get to that point, we need accountability and a way to deal with our emotional, relational and spiritual issues that causes us to rely on food in the first place.
